A Tale of Two Toilets

I’ve been quiet lately. Allow me to explain.

This is the Tale of 2 Toilets.

Both toilets in my house have been leaking for some time. It’s not that I don’t care about appliances constantly making annoying dripping sounds, and I realize I was not being very eco-friendly. It’s just that dysfunctional commodes haven’t reached the top of my “to-do list.” You see, I’ve had limited bandwidth for the last several months. I received clear confirmation from God that I needed to finish my book right in the midst of experiencing a few health issues that weren’t enough to stop my daily activities, but just enough to drain my energy and drag me into slow motion. I’ve had to budget my time and attention carefully, selecting which issues to tackle. If anyone came into my home, they probably wondered why I hadn’t spent $10 on replacement parts and watched YouTube videos to put the issue behind me.

It was a challenge beyond my capacity, a universal problem. We feel the need to be all the things to all the people and fix all the problems and juggle all the plates. It feels overwhelming and stressful, and we spin ourselves into a tizzy.

The motivational speakers will suggest list-making, hard work, and time management.

Let me give you some freeing advice.

It’s OK to let the toilets drip. To focus on important things, less important ones take a back seat. Often, people around you don’t prioritize your issues the same way you do. Stay attuned to the Lord’s voice. When you focus on His callings for your life and focus on Kingdom values, He will silence the nagging voices in your head criticizing your choices.

Eventually, one of the commodes was refilling so frequently it disturbed my writing process. It was time to make a move. The minor was negatively impacting the major. That’s what it takes sometimes before we find the bandwidth to act.

The other toilet is still dripping, but I’m back at writing my newsletter.

Let it drip.
